KM-Range NIR Searchlight with Short-Range Eye Protection [Patent]

Lumos Technology Co., Ltd. partnered with a leading imaging/optics company to produce a long-range near-infrared (NIR) floodlight for nighttime surveillance. The compact device can illuminate scenes up to 4+ km (2.5+ mi) distant while remaining safe for the unprotected eye—a unique characteristic for such a long-range, high-power device.

Hiro was pulled on board for the brainstorming and conceptualization processes, where he proposed using arrayed, low-power NIR lights. The resulting beams were far enough apart to create eye-safe conditions while retaining long-range visibility. As this approach was successfully implemented in the final invention, Hiro was named a co-inventor of this patent.
